Featured Vendor: Bob Carlin of Bob Carlin Music and CarTunes Recordings

At first glance, one would think that this quiet and unassuming gentleman was merely a collector of “Golden Era” Gibson and Martin guitars. Bob Carlin attends several guitars shows during the year and we’ve yet to see him kick up much dust, but after peeling away a few layers, it seems that there is much more to him than just the charming smile and killer kicks…

As it turns out, Bob is an accomplished banjoist with over 40 years in the music business and 75 recordings to his credit. He is a teacher, author, collector and musician- these were the accomplishments we were to discover after peeling back those aforementioned layers and if you just want to sit down and get a master class on anything from “clawhammer” banjo technics to the features of 30’s- late-’60’s Gibson and Martin acoustics, Bob would be your “go-to” guy. He may very well be one of the last of the “old school” sentinels who can lean back on decades of musical knowledge and practical touring experience.

Accolades aside, we have to give proper due to a particular accoutrement of Mr. Carlin and that would be… those shoes. They get an official rating of 9.4 on the ‘Elk Richter scale and if Elvis Presley were alive today and walked into Bob’s booth, his next hit would not have been called “Blue Suede Shoes.” Yessir folks, there are other colors to sing about…

In the “guitar business,” you’ll often meet people that loudly know only a little about something and others that quietly know volumes about a lot. Our Mr. Carlin is definitely one of the latter and we’re honored that he’ll be attending the Atlanta Guitar Show this June. If you can’t find him in front of a Marshall stack, banging out some Heavy Metal riffs, just look for the coolest shoes in the room and a booth full of old acoustics. Chances are, the guy smiling quietly in the middle of them will be Bob…
