Brian “The Mug” Milstead and The Mug Band- 2019 Atlanta Guitar Show Promo Video

I’m sure Lee would agree with me that one of the main reasons we love and respect Brian “The Mug” Milstead so much is, every since we got to know him and become friends well over a decade ago, he has always ended our phone conversations with “I love you man.” At first, it sounded a little odd, hearing that from another dude, but as I found myself saying it back to him over the years, it struck me what a powerful meaning those words held. Simply put, this young cat is the real-deal, old soul, genuinely good human being and not only is his talent a rarity, so is his purity of spirit.  And, you’d never guess it by watching him glide across a room, smoother than a baby’s bottom, all covered in silk…

After seeing The Mug play for the first time, my comment all the way home was, “Lee, he didn’t miss one damn note. Not one,” and the tall one just nodded, not only because he was doing the chauffeur thing that night, but because it was true. The Mug doesn’t just have the Blues, he gives them and if you don’t believe me, just look at any fretboard he just pulled his hands off of. Trust me- dem frets dey do have da Blues…

Brian’s good for as long a chat as you want when it comes to guitars, especially Les Pauls- just ask him about the “Mugburst” and you will indeed get the tale of how a man found the guitar that was truly made for him. Lee and I have heard all the stories, but I got one extra; The Mug drove down out of North Carolina, played a round of golf with me and a couple of my boys, fussed at me because I forgot to give him the read of the greens on my home course and then stayed for lunch before heading back out. That, my friends is what I think he means when he says, “I love you man.” There just ain’t enough of that in this world anymore and if I could put “Mug Love” in a jar, you’d all be buying it and I would be retired…

Some people are blessed and some deserve it. Brian Milstead is both and if we count our chickens right, he just might show up on Sunday, June 9th at the Atlanta Guitar Show. If you see him, get yourself a picture and an autograph- Lee and I already have ours…
